Review of Ove Glove
If you are like me, you’ve had kitchen accidents before. Whether it’s burning your hands while grabbing cookies out of the oven, a pan off the stove, or a cup from the microwave, or spills- hot water, soup, coffee, cake, you name it. Kitchen accidents can be a real nuisance, and a lot of them boil down to one thing- handling.
That’s where the Ove Glove comes in. With a special oven-mitt design and a number of interesting features, we will see if the Ove Glove warrants it’s price tag. For an ordinary oven mitt, fifteen to twenty dollars might seem like a high price to pay, but with the Ove Glove, it just might be worth it.
The Ove Glove’s star feature is it’s ability to handle heat, and lots of it. In fact, the packaging boldly declares that the Ove Glove withstands extreme heat up to 480 degrees Fahrenheit. Now that’s not something that you can say for many ordinary oven mitts. In fact, the Ove Glove’s composite material is modeled after the material firefighters use. It has an outer layer of DuPont Nomex and Kevlar, rendering the Ove Glove’s outer layer also fire resistant. The outer layer serves to slow the transfer of heat to the inside, allowing users to carry hot items for a significantly long period of time.
The Ove Glove has some other interesting features too. Unlike most other oven mitt’s, this one details individual fingers instead of one large mitt for four. It’s design makes a single glove equally usable on either hand. The inner layer is composed of a soft, double-knit cotton that is easy to clean. The individual fingertips are silicone-coated, providing additional protection for fingertips while grilling or handling over open flames.
The one downside to the Ove Glove is that it isn’t waterproof, so care must be taken while handling hot liquids. Also, it must be noted that the glove is not completely flame resistant, meaning that it can catch on fire with extreme, prolonged exposure. Nevertheless, overall most testers and reviewers give the Ove Glove a positive rating, saying that it does handle hot temperatures very well.
